It was a dream come true. The 45-foot water dome that Frank Lloyd Wright dreamed of for the Florida Southern Campus is finally a reality. Hundreds of people were in attendance to watch the world premiere of Wright's water dome, but only after an entire day filled with activities leading up to the grand event.
Tonight will mark the second Friday Night @ the Roux event. The Roux Library will be open six Friday nights until 11 p.m. this school year. Student Activities will provide entertainment in TūTū's, and the library will also be open for students who wish to study and receive individual assistance from librarians.
Florida Southern's business and economics professor Dr. Craig Bythewood is lovingly known to his students as "Dr. B." He is no ordinary college professor as he is involved with FSC's intramural flag football and basketball as a member of the Old School team.
The artwork of high school students from 12 Florida counties surrounding Florida Southern college is currently being featured in the Melvin Art Gallery, in an exhibit entitled 200 Miles of Art. Holly Murkerson, director of the gallery, sent out a call for entries to high schools.
Everyone currently involved in the nursing program at Florida Southern College, including many alumni, celebrated the program's thirtieth anniversary on Oct. 19, with featured speaker Dr. Jo Manion. Dr. Larry Campbell and Dr. Richard Burnette established the program in 1977.
The Monster Energy Drink Company has recently decided to sponsor Florida Southern's chapter of Sigma Chi. This is Monster's way of promoting their drink in a new way. "We have sponsored fraternities and sororities on over 300 college campuses across the U.
The Florida Southern chapter of Alpha Chi Omega just recently put on their Luminary Project for their philanthropy. It was the sorority's largest philanthropy event of the year, and they raised $1,500 for the Peace River Center for victims of domestic violence.
"Fight MOCS onto Victory, Yes proud MOCS ever shall we be, So hail the Red and White and Fight, Fight, FI-GH-T!" The new fight song by senior Daniel J. Rindt, president of the student government association at Florida Southern College, is only a small symbol of the school spirit that students have at FSC.
A few hundred people waited for the curtain to rise in Branscomb Auditorium on Oct. 11, to hear the students and faculty of Florida Southern College perform in the music department's Opening Gala. It was "the best opening gala ever," according to Dr. Lawrence Burke.
The Florida Southern chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi's newest fundraiser, War of the Roses, was successful with a week full of competitive fun. Lambda Chi Alpha came out on top to take first place in the competition. During the week leading up to fall break, AO? hosted nightly events to bring out competition between the seven participating sororities and fraternities while raising funds to support their philanthropy, The Arthritis Foundation.
Chris Corbin and Kurt Poland, both seniors, are the Stand Out Students of Florida Southern College's religion department. Dr. Sara Fletcher Harding, FSC religion program coordinator and associate professor of religion, said that Corbin and Poland are "excellent students, and excellent people.
According to the official Walt Disney World website, Disney's Magic Kingdom, situated just outside Orlando, first opened in October 1971. Employing approximately 5,500 peoples when it first began, the park has since grown in mammoth proportions. Today it holds an employee total of some 61,000 people, making it the largest single-site employer in the United States.
TZeDeK, the Hebrew word for justice, is a group on campus that was started by Florida Southern College's chaplain, Rev. Tim Wright, and a group of students last spring semester. The organization is currently in a trial period with Student Government, part of the process of becoming officially recognized by SGA.
For the 2007-2008 school year, the Wellness Center at Florida Southern College has introduced new programs, new activities and some new costs for students. Off-campus day trips that were up until this year offered free of charge for students, such as paintball and kayaking, now cost students between $5 and $10.
Florida Southern College welcomed a new wellness program, called Worksite Wellness, to the Wellness Center for this school year. With the Worksite Wellness Program, students, faculty and staff have the options of attending group exercise classes, signing up for healthy lifestyle coaches or participating in incentive programs.
