On Jan. 16, the Lady Mocs basketball team overcame an intimidating deficit to claim a victory over the Florida Tech Panthers. With the win the Mocs' record improved to 10-7, giving them an SSC Conference record of 3-4. After allowing the Panthers to score 15 straight points and go into halftime with a 25-16 lead, the Mocs seemed to have lost their energy.
With 26 NCAA championship titles, Florida Southern ranks as one of the most successful athletics schools in Division II and the SSC Conference. In the 2008-2009 school year, FSC will add a men's lacrosse team, with many significant goals in mind. This historic addition was made possible by FSC athletic director Lois Webb, who was named National Division II Administrator of the Year in 2006.
Lady Moccasins off to strong start start in defense of their national championship The FSC Lady Mocs golf team is hoping to reclaim their title as national champions, and have come out of the gate strong - winning their first tournament of the year in which they played their starters.
This was Coach Tom Schmelz's first year with his own recruitment class at Florida Southern College. The biggest problem when starting with a small team is trying to get the team's numbers up to be able to compete at a high level. With high hopes, such as to compete with the swim team at University of Tampa, Coach Schmelz came into this season with a plan to turn things around.
