FSC's horticulture and citrus fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho, hosted the fourth annual "Buck Off" bull riding competition in the greek quad as a part of Greek Unity week. Students had the opportunity to eat Sonny's BBQ for $2, of which some of the proceeds went to the Sheriff's Youth Ranch.
Theta Chi's annual Pie Theta Chi could be called a sweet success, especially for those that got to lick the whipped cream pie off their faces. On. Nov. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m., students gathered at the Florida Southern College's Bandshell to participate in the fundraiser which benefited Theta Chi's philanthropies, The Talbot House and Camp Fire USA.
For gift giving, some like to venture into the unique. "I am planning on getting my mom the new Paula Dean cookware and for my dad new hunting equipment," freshman Billy Smith said. However, the majority of students at Florida Southern College tend to stick to normalcy.
World Aids Day is an awareness event utilized to encourage students to be responsible in their personal lives. On Dec. 1, the Healthy Campus Coalition group held its tenth annual celebration on the Florida Southern College campus. Each month the organization has a different awareness topic; November was a program on alcohol.
The Florida Southern College Forensic team took fifth place overall at the Star Invitational at Florida State College at Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla against eight colleges and universities from all over the state of Florida and Texas. The FSC Forensic team is comprised of 12 competitors that participated in eight out of the 11 individual events that the tournament offered.
Originally founded in 1868 at the University of Virginia, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity has maintained an international reputation of scholarship, leadership and integrity. Now, PIKE is back on the Florida Southern campus. With 5,023 total initiations in the 2008-2009 year alone, PIKE has earned its title of largest international fraternity.

Astray from the typical "norm" that women are hopeless romantics and go to college to find their husbands, these gentlemen turned the tables and have faith.
"There's such a lack of parking at this school. Also, the parking tickets frustrate me, and there's no differentiation between commuter parking and regular student parking," Catherine Rosekelly, senior, said. Director of Campus Safety Bill Carew acknowledges that parking is a challenge on FSC's campus.

Complaint: "The internet and the portal are completely unreliable. We need to register for classes and do assignments online, and half the time it doesn't even work," Emily Otero, a sophomore, said.

The use of censorship has become a wide spread practice in society because it causes people to only gain certain information instead of all sides of a topic, story or issue. Censorship is the practice of officially examining books, movies and etc and suppressing unacceptable parts.
Dr. Bob Baum is the premedical coordinator, the chair of the biology department and a biology professor here at Florida Southern. Baum teaches courses in biological foundations lab, biological science, microbiology, cell biology and immunology. Professionally, his interests include AIDS education, blood borne pathogen education and evolution.

Promoting SAGA's theme of poverty and hunger, TZedek, a social justice organization at Florida Southern College, held Blanket the Night to raise awareness for the homeless. "TZeDek is a social justice organization with focuses on homelessness and poverty, human rights and dignities, the environment and economy," Lauren Lee McLellan, president of TZeDek, said.
Florida Southern College's theater department will be presenting their second performance of the year on "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" at the Loca Lee Buckner Theatre starting Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The play takes place in 1975 when a group of women in the Jimmy Dean fan club meet up to commemorate the 20th year death anniversary of the actor.
