Originally founded in 1868 at the University of Virginia, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity has maintained an international reputation of scholarship, leadership and integrity. Now, PIKE is back on the Florida Southern campus. With 5,023 total initiations in the 2008-2009 year alone, PIKE has earned its title of largest international fraternity.
For gift giving, some like to venture into the unique. "I am planning on getting my mom the new Paula Dean cookware and for my dad new hunting equipment," freshman Billy Smith said. However, the majority of students at Florida Southern College tend to stick to normalcy.
World Aids Day is an awareness event utilized to encourage students to be responsible in their personal lives. On Dec. 1, the Healthy Campus Coalition group held its tenth annual celebration on the Florida Southern College campus. Each month the organization has a different awareness topic; November was a program on alcohol.
"There's such a lack of parking at this school. Also, the parking tickets frustrate me, and there's no differentiation between commuter parking and regular student parking," Catherine Rosekelly, senior, said. Director of Campus Safety Bill Carew acknowledges that parking is a challenge on FSC's campus.
Finals are right around the corner and some overachieving students, unlike myself, have already been studying for weeks. But if you are anything like me, aside from being a master procrastinator, I cannot seem to focus in my dorm room or even in Roux library.
Dr. Christopher T. Weaver, psychology professor, has been teaching at Florida Southern since 1976. Weaver teaches many psychology courses on campus. He enjoys teaching psychology as a social science-the non-major psychology requirement. He also teaches both social psychology and developmental psychology at FSC.
