The Lady Mocs are heading into Sunshine State Conference play with only one blemish on their record so far this season. Both starters and those on the bench have contributed to the team's success so far this season. All 13 Lady Mocs on the team have had the opportunity to play and tack on to the team's 488 points so far this season.
On Thanksgiving one of my favorite athletes - Apolo Anton Ohno - popped up on my teleivision screen announcing that the 2010 Winter Olympics on Vancouver are less than 100 days away and honestly, I could not be anymore excited. The winter games are a perfect example of the strength, grace and endurance of many athletes who are sometimes overlooked.
The Mocs are currently ranked fourth in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II poll and have a 5-0 overall record. Rival Rollins College is ranked 16th and is the only other Sunshine State Conference team ranked in the top 25. With a blemish free record so far this season, the men's basketball team will begin conference play this weekend again Sunshine State Conference rival Barry University on Saturday.
The Lady Mocs swimming team may perform best in the water, but they are just like nearly every other athletic team at Florida Southern College - they are led by experienced youth. Two of the Lady Mocs top swimmers are freshman Liz Broadley and junior Cara Potter.
While most Florida Southern students spent their Thanksgiving breaks counting the blessings in their lives with family at home while enjoying the traditional holiday dinner, junior guard Rion Rayfield was celebrating the holiday in a different way: four games in six days.
