Friday Night @ the Roux

Laura Howell

Issue date: 10/25/07 Section: News
Tonight will mark the second Friday Night @ the Roux event. The Roux Library will be open six Friday nights until 11 p.m. this school year. Student Activities will provide entertainment in TûTû's, and the library will also be open for students who wish to study and receive individual assistance from librarians.

Jordan Stout, a junior broadcasting major, is excited about the event because "it's the first event on campus to use TûTû's as a launching post."

A Comedy Improv Night, courtesy of Student activities will begin at 8 p.m. in TûTû's. Stout will be showcasing his stand up comedy, along with other local talents. Freshman Ross Cooper will be the MC of the night.

According to Stout, the Comedy Improv Night was the idea of senior Rogelio Perez. Perez participated in improv nights with Stout over the summer, and wanted to start a similar event on campus.

The event will give TûTû's "a coffee house type feel," said Jill Petrey, director of student activities.

Stout is looking forward to the event because it is on campus so he doesn't have to pay to participate. Tonight will give Stout the opportunity to "get better at improv and try out new material in front of an audience that wants to hear him." He said that he can decide how long his act will be. "It's a win - win - win situation" according to Stout.

Tonight's audience will also have the opportunity to check out the Water Dome, meet the authors of the new book, "The Buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright at Florida Southern College" published by Arcadia, and enjoy local stand up comedy.

The authors of the book, Randall MacDonald, the interim director of the library; Nora Galbraith, a resource sharing librarian; and art and art history professor Dr. James Rogers, will be in the library from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to discuss their work and sign copies of the book which was released Oct. 22.

The book is available in the FSC bookstore and Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center. There will also be a companion postcard book available in conjunction with the bookstore.
