With the Thanksgiving break out of the way, students can now turn their eyes towards another holiday, Christmas. There are a number of festivities planned in the coming weeks to get students in a festive mood.

The Christmas celebrations kick off with the Florida Southern College Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 2. at 7:15 p.m., at the corner of Johnson and Lake Hollingsworth Drive. All members of the FSC community are invited to gather to light the school's tree.

Two days later the FSC religion department will conduct its own Christmas tradition, a Christmas candlelight service, on Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in Annie Pfeiffer Chapel.

Several other events will also be held that same week. A special Christmas Gala convocation will take place on Dec. 5 at 10:10 a.m. and will feature FSC's music department as they play 30 minutes of Christmas music for students and faculty.

The Christmas season is a season of giving and students can give the gift of life Dec. 4 and Dec. 5, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., by donating blood aboard the blood mobile, which will be parked at Circle Drive during those times.

The entire Lakeland community is invited to join in the Christmas-time fun at the annual parade through downtown Lakeland. The parade will feature over 100 floats and a parade theme of "Christmas around the World." The parade begins Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. with fireworks over Lake Mirror. The parade route begins and ends at the Lakeland Center, with the parade following down Lemon Road to loop behind Lake Mirror and follow Orange Street back.

FSC will then continue its own celebration with a Christmas dance to be held the following night at 8 p.m. in the Thrift Building. Then there will be another Christmas gala on Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. in Branscomb Auditorium, again featuring the FSC music department. Convocation will have offered only a small sample of the holiday music that will be presented that afternoon.

The next night students can take a break and head over to Wynee's Bistro, where faculty and staff will be flipping pancakes for students to enjoy while they take a break from studying for exams to enjoy good food and plenty of fellowship with one another.

The final event of the week will be Take a Break. Students can take the opportunity to relax and take a break from studying in the Wellness Center on Dec. 10 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Students will want to be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to eat some snacks and enjoy a free 15-minute massage.
