On Tuesday, March 4, the Florida Southern College Lady Mocs basketball team saw their season come to a close in Winter Park against Rollins College. The game ended with a score of 72-53, sending FSC back to Lakeland with a final record of 15-13 and a 7-9 record against Sunshine State Conference opponents.
Against Rollins, the Mocs went into halftime with a 6-point lead, but weren't able to capitalize on that success in the second half.
When play resumed, the Mocs allowed the Tars to score over 10 points before another FSC shot was made. This rally seemed too much for the squad, as they were were unable to reclaim the lead.
Freshman guard Chelsea Johnson was able to improve her point total for the season, ending the year with 520.
With only three seniors on this year's team, the Lady Mocs look to build on the success they experienced this season. Five of the eleven women are freshman this year and will come back next year with high expectations.
The fifteen wins they gathered this season is the most since 2003, when FSC won the Sunshine State Conference Championship. Compared with last year's win total of eleven, the Moccasins showed a vast amount of improvement this season.
The Big Game
The most impressive victory of the year for the Mocs was against Palm Beach Atlantic on December 14, at Jenkins Field House. The team combined for a one-sided 93-56 win. In the victory, Johnson scored 17 points and Deanna Castro scored a season-high 13 points, adding five assists to complement that.
It was the fifth win of the season.
