One of Florida Southern's classic traditions was back in full swing March 24-29 with the Founder's Week events.

Founder's Week is a week-long event filled with a variety of competitive events that allow teams of FSC students to take part in a different event each day of the week.

The week kicked off with a lip sync contest Monday night, where all of the different teams performed a lip sync based on the week's theme of "Paris Nights."

Members of the Founder's Week teams had the opportunity to show off their artistic side on Tuesday by decorating the glass windows of the bookstore in the breezeway.

Students used red, white, and blue paint to stick to this year's French theme for the week. All of the teams were supposed to manage to incorporate school spirit, the French theme and Mocsie.

On Wednesday, teams were given a list of 10 places at FSC that they were to take photos in front of. Teams had to provide their own camera and were given only two hours to complete the task. The goal was to be the first team to finish with all of the correct pictures. The top three finishers for this event were Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Chi Omega, and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Thursday night was the Southern Olympics. Each of the different teams had a variety of tasks to compete in such as an obstacle course, water relay, noodle race and a messy game. In the messy game, team members had to retrieve marshmallows out of a pool of Jello using only their feet.

Friday's events were a little more relaxing and simply encouraged members of the team to wear red to show off their school spirit. The goal for the day was to be the team with the most members that stopped by the bandshell to prove that they had been wearing red.

Additionally, teams collected Gatorade for Sandwich Ministries. Points were awarded to the teams based on the number of bottles of Gatorade that were donated in their team's name.

The parade this year, which took place on Saturday afternoon, was not a complete success, with only three groups participating - Delta Omicron, Alpha Delta Pi and SGA. The fact that reunion weekend for alumni was held the week prior, may have played a role in the number of floats. Alumni typically make up a large portion of the audience for the parade. Several organizations may have felt that there would not be a crowd to entertain and therefore did not choose to enter a float.
Delta Omicron's German themed float took home the cash prize for first place.

The entire week of fun lead up to the largest and most anticipated event - Founder's Ball. Saturday night's event served as a sophisticated awards ceremony for the teams that participated in the rest of the events, but it is also the night of the announcement of the two senior awards.

Years ago, the recipients of these awards were named Mr. and Ms. Southern. Now they are named for two of FSC's prestigious alumni, Agnes Johnson Rowe and the late James C. Rogers.

Every campus organization on campus are given the chance to nominate seniors for the awards and the nominees are put on the SGA elelection ballot, giving all students a chance to vote for the winners. Rachael Kraemer and Dan Rindt were presented with the awards.

Students met at the Lake Mirror Amphitheater dressed in very elegant attire just in time to watch the sun set across the lake. A dinner and dance next to the lake were also key elements of the evening.

As the exciting week came to a close, Sigma Chi was announced as the overall winner of the week's events for a second consecutive year.

Theta Chi fraternity took home second place and Alpha Chi Omega got third place.
