Performing for the first time this year, Florida Southern College's theatre department, under the direction of Mary T. Albright, will present the comedy "The Foreigner" written by Larry Shue.

"The Foreigner" is about two English men named Froggy and Charlie who decide to take a trip to a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County Georgia. While visiting the lodge, Charlie's shy nature causes him to struggle with interacting with those around him. Froggy decides to tell everyone at the lodge that Charlie is from an exotic country and is unable to understand English.

Since the residents at the lodge believe that Charlie does not understand English, he is able to overhear their secrets and uncover scandals occurring at the lodge.

The cast members and roles of "The Foreigner" include senior Andrew White as Froggy Le Seur, sophomore Carlos Leon as Charlie Baker, senior Kaci Kolhelpp as Betty Meeks, sophomore Seth Spencer as David Lee, sophomore Nicholas Coso as Ellard Simms, freshman Heather Dean as Catherine Simms, and sophomore Kyle Boisvert as Owen Musser.

"The play is absolutely ridiculous, and that's what makes it so hilarious, Kolhepp said. "We are really hoping the audience gets a kick out of it."

According to the American Theatre Critics Association, "The Foreigner" was produced Off-Broadway in the Astor Place Theatre in New York City in 1984.

Junior, Cortney West said that "'The Foreigner' is going to be an amazing show to open our fine arts season with. I am really excited and can't wait to hear the audience's laughter as they experience this rambunctious farce."

Productions of "The Foreigner" will be held in the Buckner Theatre as a part of the Festival of Fine Arts series at FSC.
Tickets for FSC students, faculty, and staff are free. Regular admission is $15 per person.

Showings of "The Foreigner" begin on Sept. 25-27, Oct. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees will be held on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m.

For more information, contact the Buckner Box Office at extension 3089. To reserve tickets, call The Buckner Box Office Monday through Friday from the hours of 2 to 6 p.m.
