Florida Southern College's annual Family Weekend is here once again. From Oct. 3-5, students and their families will get the chance to spend time together, with a lineup of fun events.

"It's all relative" is the play on words being used to promote the event, which caters to both freshmen and upperclassmen alike.
It is a time when students' families "can 'check in on' their student and just have some fun," said Shari Szabo, assistant dean of student development.

Family Weekend is "a partnership event between the office of Student Development and the FSC Family Association," Szabo said.

Members of the Family Association volunteer to help with various events throughout the weekend, as well as with registration. Year after year, those in charge of the weekend look for fun events that can be incorporated into Family Weekend.

So, what's planned this time around? From games to productions to food, there are many possibilities. This year, some new activities to the schedule.

Beginning on Oct. 3, there are many activities for students and their families to take part in. From 8 a.m. to noon, parents can attend morning classes with their student.

At noon, there is a Board of Directors Lunch with FSC president, Dr. Anne Kerr. The official registration time begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m.

Later in the evening, the school will have the annual Shrimp Boil. The cost is $13 per person, and FSC students eat free.

The evening will bring Southern's Got Talent, FSC's popular talent show, held in Branscomb Auditorium. The event is sponsored by SGA and Kappa Delta.

There is a requested $3 donation at the door, which will go toward supporting Prevent Child Abuse America.
"We are thrilled to have it be a part of the Family Weekend schedule," Szabo said.

The theatre department will present "The Foreigner," FSC's latest theatre production, at 7:30 p.m. in Buckner Theatre on both Friday and Saturday nights.
