Quantum of Solace

Ok, so let me start off by saying that it is not as good as Casino Royale, but it is very, very close. I will go out on a limb after two movies and say that Daniel Craig is the second best James Bond actor ever (behind Sean Connery, of course) and has the potential to be the best. It does stink that the writers and the directors have not given him all the cool gadgets, but he's a straight ladies man and an amazing fighter, so I'll take it. Daniel Craig, once again, is very strong as Bond, and unlike what a lot of critics have said, is actually good fun. He can deliver a pun quite well and he also expresses the dramatic and serious aspects of Bond to perfection. The Bond girl this time was hard to figure out. The Bond girl is played by Olga Kurylenko ("Hitman".) She plays a very interesting, although different, Bond girl. She doesn't appear much for the first half and her first sequence seemed more random than interesting. However, she does develop quite nicely and by the end she is definitely one of the better Bond girls.

The villain this time is Mathieu Amharic. Amalric is a slimy villain and he does put in a good performance, but his villain just isn't all that menacing. He didn't really do that much, but was very smart, so he probably will be forgotten about. Quantum of Solace picks up where Casino Royale left off, so you Bond fans, this will give you some closure. The movie will leave you guessing until the very end, but that's the way I like it. The action scenes were fantastic, the opening scene was terrific. Maybe not as good as Casino Royale, but still very good. Even though it killed me for them to destroy so many Aston Martins, 12 in fact, but it was still worth it.

Quantum of Solace, as I've said, is a great movie and no doubt many people will love it, although some will be a bit disappointed by it. Either way, Craig is still a great Bond and I cannot wait to see more adventures with him as the lead, but we could do with a more interesting villain next time around please.

It's going to be great to see the next one without the rushed
script from the writers strike. So over this Thanksgiving Break, call up some friends, maybe go on a date with someone you've wanted and go see this movie. It'll be worth every penny. I give it 3 stars.

Twilight

Wow. This movie was fantastic. I haven't seen something like it before. The darkness of the love between them is creative, but then there is true love that you find in most love stories. As a fan of the book, because my mother, the librarian, makes me read them, this movie was fantastic beginning to end. Please don't spend your time comparing it to the book if you have read it. There is no way to get it spot on or make up what you have in your mind about what the movie should really be like. If you just sit there comparing the book and the movie, you'll take the fun out of the movie itself. If you are a book reader, reading "Midnight Sun" really helps understand Edward's reactions and such. This is the best movie I've seen that has stayed the closest to the book as much as it could.

As a movie guy, I wish they beefed some things up, but overall this movie is great. If you're not familiar with the storyline it goes something like this. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) moves up to Forks, Wash. with her Dad after her mom and mom's new husband move to Jacksonville because of his minor league baseball career. Here she becomes the talk of the town because the town only has 3,220 people living there. Her father is the police chief and told everyone when he found out. Anyways, at school she meets Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and they become friends over time. She finally figures out that he and his "family" are vampires. Throughout the rest of the movie you watch Bella and Edward form a Romeo and Juliet type relationship. It is challenged by James (Cam Gigendet, who is a great up and coming actor that I would like to see more of) who loves the hunt of trying to find Bella. That is all I will say about the movie so you'll have to go and see it. I will say that Kristen and Robert have a great chemistry, although it is awkward at times because of a lack of emotion, but it is understandable. The dude is a vampire.

If you don't like the Harry Potter series I assure you that will like the Twilight series, it's a bit more for the older crowd and rightfully so. One thing I don't understand is why girls are obsessed over Robert Pattinson. Yeah he was good, but in Dr. Weaver's Development Psychology class we talked about how Robert Pattinson visited King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania and more than 1,000 girls were screaming when he came out and then as he ran his fingers through his hair the place erupted.
Reading the article even further, a girl in SoHo asked him to bite her neck. This just makes me laugh and wonder why people cannot separate reality and fantasyland.  Anyways, the movie is great. Please go see this movie over Thanksgiving Break. It is a movie the whole family can enjoy and maybe if you want to, go to Barnes and Noble and pick up a copy of the book.  I haven't seen anything about production on the next installment of the Twilight series "New Moon," but I'll let you know. I give this movie 4 stars.
