FSC's Lady Mocs are preparing hard for this upcoming season. With only one senior leaving from last year's squad, they have a good mix of returning experience and young talent.
The Lady Mocs softball team finished in the top 4 nationally three out of the last five years. They were regional champs two out of the last three years, and have made the postseason three out of the last four years. Last season the FSC Lady Mocs were 29-14 overall, but had a poor conference record of 9-12. This year they hope to return to their dominant ways.
The fans and supporters of the FSC softball program should see a change in the Lady Mocs this season.
"The difference between last year's team and this year's team...is that this year we have more experience. We only lost one starter last year, so we have basically the same team back this year,"said sophomore right fielder Lindsey Powell. "Last year was a rebuilding year in many ways because we had a lot of new players, and we had to learn how to play together. This year we have basically the same team back, so I feel like that is a big plus."
Freshmen second basemen Karlyn Scott said, "Our seniors are all strong leaders on our team. They are all positive leaders in their own way and have all the experience. They are awesome student-athletes, friends, and role models. They keep us motivated and push us everyday to work hard."
Head coach Chris Bellotto, and assistant coaches Jeff Lang, Melannie Grimes and Al Bellotto all have the respect of their players.
"They are always stressing that we have a high intensity level and pushing us every day to go out and have a perfect practice," said sophomore pitcher Christine Clark. "It definitely puts the kind of pressure on us that we would have in a game. So if we can do it in practice, we'll be ready for the game."
The team's opening game is Feb. 7, at Webber International. Their first home game is on Feb. 20 against Warner Southern.
