With a 17-7 record and winning second place in the NCAA Regional, the Florida Southern Women's tennis team accomplished a lot last season, and has high expectations for the upcoming season.
Coach Trish Riddell has high hopes of continuing on with what her team accomplished last season.
"We have been doing a combination of on court work and off court work," Riddell said in regards to the women's conditioning.
The Florida Southern Lady Mocs have trained in running, lifting weights and have begun working with the men's tennis team to help condition themselves. They are also leaning towards using the pool as another tool for conditioning.
It is clear that these eight women, along with their coach, mean business. They are aware of the high level of competition that they will be up against, such as Lynn, Barry, and Nova Southeastern.
Each player was given the responsibility to continue on with their training over winter break, and to come back ready to continue with their preparations.
"We didn't lose anybody from last year," Riddell said. "Everyone gets along really well, the chemistry is very good."
The team also has a new addition, Keva Palmer, a freshman from Freeport, Bahamas.
The first few matches will definitely set the stage for Palmer, but with the support of Riddell and the rest of the women's tennis team there is no doubt in their eyes that she will be able to succeed.
As a team goal they want to win regional's and the conference. Their road to that goal begins with their first match at St. Leo, on Feb. 5.
