Brandi's 'Books to Remember'

The lines that stand out the most in "One Art" are the last four lines: "Even losing you I shan't have lied. It is evident the art of losing is not too hard to master though it may look like a disaster."
The anthology "Legitimate Dangers" has a wide range of poetry and is an amazing read. I have not finished the entire book yet, but in all fairness it is around 500 pages long "Legitimate Dangers" is one of those books you should read slowly to you have time to gradually take in and digest such a broad collection of poetry.
Dumanis actually visited our campus last semester, thanks to English professor Dr. Erica Bernheim. Dumanis visited our Creative Writing Poetry class and read his poetry in a packed Danforth Chapel.
I was as impressed with his poetry just as much if not more as I was with his diverse anthology of contemporary American poets. His anthology earns four stars from me.

The last poet I recommend is James Dickey and his poem "The Sheep Child" from the anthology "Contemporary American Poetry" edited by Donald Hall.
"The Sheep Child" is a poem that pushes the limit, uses symbolism perfectly, and touches the soul. Dickey's skillful allegory of Mary and Jesus makes his poem devastating and unforgettable. "
"Are we, because we remember, remembered in the terrible dust of museums?" This quote is only one of the many that make-up a poem that will never leave your mind after you read it.
James Dickey was asked to read his poem "The Strength of Fields," which was also included in "Contemporary American Poetry," at President Jimmy Carter's inauguration in 1977. The film "Deliverance" is based off of Dickey's novel, and was released in 1972. Dickey had a cameo in the film as a sheriff. This anthology is most definitely a five star anthology.
