Florida Southern College's Sports Management Club will once again be teaming up against cancer, by holding their 2nd annual Jimmy V. Foundation charity basketball game.

After raising over $5,000 to donate through last year's game, members of the Sports Management Club are hoping to surpass that mark with this year's event.

At noon on April 4, students, faculty and members of the Lakeland community are invited to FSC's Jenkins Field House to support cancer research by cheering on the two opposing teams.

The team representing FSC will consist of Lakeland community leaders, FSC students and FSC faculty members including business professor Dr. Mike Knudstrup, and women's basketball coach, Holly Borchers.

Facing the FSC squad will be a local rotary team.

"One of our main goals of the event is to bring the Lakeland and FSC communities together, much like last year, for a good cause," sophomore, Lauren Geraci, vice president of the sports management club said.

Tickets to the event are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under 12 years of age. All proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy V. Foundation for cancer research.

Attendees will be given a wristband which includes admission to the game, lunch, and entry into a raffle for a chance to win two sets of four Disney theme park passes.

During halftime, a projection of Jimmy Valvano's ESPY Awards speech will be played in order to show the Sports Management Club's support for cancer research and The Jimmy V. Foundation.

Additionally, the winners of the raffle will be announced at that point of the day.

Following the basketball game, attendees can venture to the field in front of the Bandshell where hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks will be served.

Here, the Sports Management Club has also organized several booths and fun activities including inflatables and face painting.
