This week I sat down with freshman swimmer Kelly Dorian. Kelly set the school record for the 100 yard butterfly in February, something he also did back at his high school in Pennsylvania. I would like to thank Kelly for taking time away from studying to talk to me.

Matt Cote: You set a school record in the 100 yard butterfly. How does that feel?

Kelly Dorian: It's awesome to have broken a school record, I hope I can do better. The bar was set pretty high, but hopefully I can set it higher next year.

MC: For those of us who aren't fluent in swimming, what does the butterfly entail?

KD: It's moving both of your arms at the same time in a butterfly motion, with a dolphin kick behind you.

MC: Does setting a record as a freshman put more pressure on you going forward?

KD: Not really, it doesn't put pressure on me. It's definitely gonna make me train harder next year.

MC: Did you set any records while swimming for your high school?

KD: I also set the 100 butterfly, it's the only record I set.

MC: What made you chose FSC?

KD: I like the small class sizes, and I really liked the kids on the swim team when I came to visit. I also really like Florida.

MC: You've had two coaches so far since you've been here, how did getting a new coach half way through the year affect you and your teammates?

KD: I think it definitely brought our team together more than it hurt us. The team was the only constant throughout.

MC: So what is your major?

KD: I'm a political science major.

MC: What type of career are you looking to get into after college?

KD: I want to be an international lawyer.

MC: Setting the bar high there, huh?

KD: If I don't make it at least I have a political science degree, I can do a lot with that.

MC: What was your reaction to the Michael Phelps bong hit photos?

KD: I thought 'you're and idiot' but I also thought the media blew it way out of proportion. I mean the guy already had two D.U.I.s, but yeah you're an idiot.

MC: I'm sure you've heard this before, but how does it feel to grow up with the name Kelly?

KD: When I was younger it would bother me, but now I don't even think about it. It's just another name to me. In middle school, I had a substitute teacher that thought I was in the wrong seat, because I had a girl's name, and she thought I was lying to her. The whole class was telling her that that was really my name, but she didn't believe us.

I would again like to thank Kelly for sitting down and taking his time to talk to me, and I wish him the best of luck moving forward.
