The Lady Mocs fell to Rollins 3-0 to end the regular season. The Mocs finished third in the conference at 6-2 behind Florida Tech and Rollins and finished the regular season with a 10-6-1 overall record.
Despite a disappointing result in their last regular season home game, the squad now faces their most critical week ahead: Sunshine State Conference semifinals against Florida Tech. The Mocs will now look to succeed in the playoffs.
"I'd say a distinct strength that our team has is our ability to take the many different aspects we learn in practice into our game and adding it to the many layers of our team as a whole," sophomore defender Morgan Wampler said.
Heading into the playoffs the Lady Mocs ability to be able to take those different aspects from practice into each game will be vital because if they lose they will be out of the running to become SSC champions.
The Lady Mocs will use their past games in the season to find ways to improve, but not to reflect on their accomplishments.
"We can definitely look back to past games on what we need to improve on, but for the most part once a game is done we move on and concentrate on what is the next task at hand - whether past games have been good or bad," Wampler said.
The Lady Mocs believe that as long as they give it their all they can be proud of one another at the end of the game.
"Knowing that we have a solid back line and keeper is a reassuring thing for sure," junior forward Princess Haley said.
Haley is the Lady Moc's leading goal scorer and along with the rest of her offensive teammates, understands the importance of having a very good defense. The team believes what is most important in preparation for each game is to be ready to handle anything that their opponents will attack them with.
The team's final game against Rollins was also the last regular season game for two players - senior defender Renee Heacock and mid-fielder Therese Dahlskold.
Heacock has played for the Lady Mocs the last two seasons after transferring from Polk State College. She has anchored a defense that has posted two of the best goals against averages in school history the past two seasons at 1.28 and 1.15. Last week she also received third-team recognition on the 2009 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team which is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Dahlskold has been a Lady Moc since her freshman year and has been a contributor since she has came here having played in games all four seasons.
Both players have made the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll every year at Florida Southern College.
The Lady Mocs defeated Lynn 3-2 in double overtime in the first round of the SSC tournament on Nov. 3.
The squad will face Florida Tech in Winter Park in the SSC semifinals today at 4:30 p.m.
