For gift giving, some like to venture into the unique. "I am planning on getting my mom the new Paula Dean cookware and for my dad new hunting equipment," freshman Billy Smith said.

However, the majority of students at Florida Southern College tend to stick to normalcy.

" I plan on getting gifts for my family and friends probably from Target or the outlets," freshman Dan Reynolds said.

An idea for a gift this holiday was mentioned by freshman Lindsey Humphrey.

"I will be making homemade crafts since that is all I can afford right now," Humphrey said. "Even for the secret Santa gift giving in my hall, I plan to stick with the full of love light on money gifts."

The consensus around school is that gift giving will be on the cheap side this year.

To prove a point, sophomore Lexi Gardner said, "I am dirt broke because I am going to Spain and I have to save up. For Christmas, I am taking advantage of my artistic abilities and buying one-dollar wooden frames from Michaels and then painting them for my friends."

Gardner also added that, "They are cheap and I think its more meaningful when you make something yourself.

For the less artsy, they can take freshman Adam Long's present idea.

"I'm just getting some chocolates or t-shirts for some friends," Long said.

Some enjoy pinching pennies and splurging for the holiday season.

"I don't have much money and I save up all year when I can," freshman Stacy Ortiz said. "Then, I get presents for those closest to me even if it's just something small. I know they'll love it."

Now for those who are not planning on giving, freshman Todd Kuzma has the perfect solution.

"I believe that spending time with friends is more valuable than a materialistic gift that will probably be lost," Kuzma said.
