With 5,023 total initiations in the 2008-2009 year alone, PIKE has earned its title of largest international fraternity. PIKE's newest 32 colony members of FSC's Delta Delta chapter were introduced on the evening of Nov. 19.
Professional Expansion Consultant for Pi Kappa Alpha and alumni of George Washington University's Delta Alpha Chapter, Steve Aveni, has high expectations for FSC's PIKE chapter.
"We expect them to succeed all over campus. These men were chosen from the top spectrums of all campus organizations from athletics to ROTC to academics. We expect them not only to lead PIKE to success, but to overall improve student life at Florida Southern College and in the Lakeland community."
Pi Kappa Alpha is takes pride in their leadership, with some of their famous alumni including country singer Tim McGraw, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart, Founder of Chick-Fil-A S. Truett Cathy, Entourage star Jeremy Piven and Josh Schwartz, creator of "The O.C."
Colony Member and Brotherhood Chair, Mike Czenszak, freshman, could not be more enthusiastic about PIKE.
"When I first interviewed for Pi Kappa Alpha, they immediately caught my attention. They had everything I wanted and I saw a great opportunity to be a part of something great--become a founding father of the Delta Delta chapter," Czenszak said.
Colony member and Special Events Chair, Billy Nagle, sophomore, expressed similar sentiments.
"I didn't even want to be in a fraternity, especially being on a small campus, but PIKE drew me in with their values of S.L.A.G.," Nagle said.
S.L.A.G., stands for scholarship, leadership, athletes and gentlemen and serves as Pi Kappa Alpha's working motto. Each colony member was chosen based on how well they exhibited these core qualities.
"These men embody S.L.A.G. and they have all put a lot of work into preparing themselves to be involved in the overall campus community. We know they will continue to raise the standard of excellence at FSC," said Harrison Simmons, the professional expansion consultant for Pi Kappa Alpha and alumnus of Virginia Tech's Epsilon chapter.
Brent Sembler, an alumnus of FSU's Delta Lambda chapter spoke to FSC's new colony members.
"Leadership is the strength and backbone of a chapter. You determine the future of Delta Delta," Sembler said.
"The alumni have been very helpful and everyone's excited to get started. The new members are really great men. They all belong here," Chapter President Chris Bessette said.
Despite holding the largest average chapter/colony size of any international fraternity and maintaining the largest average chapter and pledge class size for the past 20 years, Pi Kappa Alpha easily fits in with Greek Life on FSC's small campus. After receiving positive reinforcement from FSC's Greek community, Pi Kappa Alpha's Delta Delta chapter is ready to get involved on campus.
