On. Nov. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m., students gathered at the Florida Southern College's Bandshell to participate in the fundraiser which benefited Theta Chi's philanthropies, The Talbot House and Camp Fire USA.
During the event, members of the audience bid money to pie whichever Theta Chi member they wanted to. There were about 50 people in attendance.
The bidding started out at 1 dollar for each pie-able Theta Chi. Sophomore Scott Johnson, coordinated the event. He was the very first to be pied for $20.
One group of Theta Chi members showed their support for their fraternity and their brothers by hurling pie at their president Drew Weseman, and bidding on Scott Gill-Jacobson, fondly called "Papa Scott."
"Preparation was especially fun because the whip cream was frozen and it was cold out so we had to warm it up in order to spread it in the pie plates," Evan Nichols a Theta Chi pledge said.
After the initial planned bidding was over the announcer, who was changed out at various times during the evening due to the possibility of getting whip cream on the equipment, moved onto call outs where any Theta Chi could be called on.
The audience quickly pounced on this opportunity. Among those who were called out were; Student Life Official Greg Bowers who was pied by April Sager for $36; Theta Chi alumnus Jeffrey Beals who was pied for $25, a safety officer and Theta Chi sweethearts. The lowest bid was $7 with the highest being $52 for a Zeta Tau Alpha member Lin Chang.
"I had a lot of fun; the event took several weeks to plan, and I loved chasing those who pied us around to share the love. It was all in friendly fun we pied our big's and friends. Jacob Bonne chased Sebastian Mc Clain around after Bonne was pied by his girlfriend," Stephen Burrage said.
"Pie Theta Chi will be an annual fundraiser, and we're really looking forward to next year and raising more money for our philanthropies," Johnson said.
By the end of the evening Theta Chi raised $643, making for one extremely fun and successful evening. And, by the end of the evening, almost every Theta Chi member or pledge in attendance was wearing pie.
