Ever feel like you're walking in quicksand as the semester comes to an end? As soon as you free one foot from what's dragging you down, something else grabs a hold of you and leaves you knee-deep, shoulder deep, or in over your head.

By the way, this is the time in the column where you, as the reader, nod your head. You can even add in a triumphant yes and fist pump to show your understanding.

But rest assured, (well don't rest-no time for that) you're not alone. Others are pumping their fists too.

Well, that's not really what I meant, but I wanted to push that fist pumping.

Others are right there with you in that seemingly endless quicksand. The lucky ones have just a few toes in. Some are still able to wade slowly but surely through the quicksand. And others are in over their heads.

Personally, I'm in the wading category, but I'm carrying a snorkel just in case I get in over my head.

As I sacrifice hours of sleep and many moments of sanity, I'm comforted by the fact that there is a safe haven ahead-Winter Break.

Once the engulfing quicksand particles-- commonly called papers, tests and projects in the academic world--are finished, there will be a brief period of time where students are free from academic burdens.

Yippee! Time for another fist pump, by the way.

However, I can't help but rain on your parade a bit. These thoughts of freedom may only be an ideal not a reality.

There are definitely many students who will be preparing for the next semester, working on resumes, applying for post-graduation jobs or studying for the LSAT, GRE or various other tests.

I will be one of these students.... well, I will try to be one of these students. No promises. I might be too exhausted from staying up all night washing all the hypothetical quicksand off myself by finishing up projects and papers.

But, no matter how you spend your break, remember one thing-you will have made it through what once seemed impossible.

The next few weeks may test your every nerve and every emotion, but in the end, you will emerge with one more semester of college under your belt.

As Judson Laipply, that guy that did that great dance at Convo and got two standing ovations, said, "Life isn't always the party we'd hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance."

So dance your way through the quicksand and keep on dancing on the shore.

You can do it!
