The Lady Mocs swimming team may perform best in the water, but they are just like nearly every other athletic team at Florida Southern College - they are led by experienced youth.

Two of the Lady Mocs top swimmers are freshman Liz Broadley and junior Cara Potter.

Broadley and Potter have been establishing school records and taking first place in swim meets since this season began and all in their first year.

Broadley has won at least two events in every swim meet and has made her way into school record books as well.

Potter has been establishing new records and winning at nearly the same rate.

Broadley has set records in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard butterfly, 500-yard freestyle and 1000-yard freestyle.

"Coming here [FSC] I wasn't really focused on records," Broadley said. "I just wanted to come here and get as close as possible to a personal best time in my events."

Potter has established herself in the school record books in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Potter and Broadley each also received the honor of Bluegrass Mountain Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week Award earlier this season.

Although Potter and Broadley have had the most successful season when it comes to records and recognition, other Lady Mocs are still finishing strong in the pool, as well.

Potter, freshman Anna McIntyre, sophomores Kelly Ruf and Rae-Lynn Sheffield set the 200-yard freestyle relay school record with a time of 1:40.40.

The team has had five meets in the last month so rest has not been an option for the team.

"Our workouts have been consistently demanding right on through the meets," Broadley said.

The Lady Mocs are currently in Savannah, Ga. for the Savannah College of Art and Design invitational. SCAD defeated the Lady Mocs at earlier this season 113-92.

"We will be in a lot better shape and rested for the SCAD invite," said Broadley. "The team as a whole is going to do the best we've done all season."
